Is November a good time for a city break in the Tricity? Yes. In Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia, November means lower accommodation prices, museums without queues and empty beaches. The Christmas market on Targ Węglowy (the Coal Market) runs from 20 November to 23 December 2026. St Andrew’s Eve (Andrzejki) falls on the night of 29–30 November, which in 2026 is Sunday into Monday, so the best weekend to travel is 27–29 November. For the most convenient base, stay close to the Main Town, for example at Studio Mostek VI on ulica Mostek in Gdańsk.
Below you will find tested ideas: what to see in Gdańsk, how to spend a day in Sopot and Gdynia, an Andrzejki idea for the seaside and a ready-made three-day plan.
Why the Tricity in November?
In October and November the days on the Gulf of Gdańsk can be grey and rainy, but that is exactly when accommodation prices are among the lowest of the year. Autumn also makes it easier to buy tickets to the biggest museums, because in summer you cannot always walk straight in to a permanent exhibition. In winter (November to March) temperatures in the region usually range from −5 to 5°C, so bring a warm, windproof jacket.
The Tricity also gets good press: National Geographic Traveller listed it among destinations worth watching in 2027, praising its mix of history, architecture, seaside landscapes and a growing food scene.
A November city break works well for three groups:
- couples who want a quiet weekend without summer crowds,
- people who love museums, concerts and good food,
- groups of friends and families combining sightseeing with the Christmas market or Andrzejki.
What to see in Gdańsk in November
In November the best approach in Gdańsk is to combine walks around the Main Town with museums, so you can duck indoors when it rains. Here is how to shape a day:
- The Main Town and the Motława. Long Market (Długi Targ), Neptune’s Fountain, Artus Court, St Mary’s Basilica and the Crane over the Motława make a classic 2–3 hour route. In the evening, stroll down the lit-up Mariacka Street.
- Museum of the Second World War. Set aside at least 3 hours for the full exhibition. It is one of the most visited places in the city, and tickets are easier to get in autumn.
- European Solidarity Centre. Outside the May–September season the building closes at 6 pm, so plan your visit for the morning or early afternoon.
- Amber Museum and National Museum. Good for rainy hours. Check current temporary exhibitions and prices on the museums’ websites.
- Oliwa. Oliwa Park and Oliwa Cathedral, known for its organ concerts, make a calm idea for a Sunday morning. From the centre you can get there by SKM, the local commuter rail.
- With children. The Hevelianum science centre, the Gdańsk Parrot House and the Gdańsk Zoo will save a day when the weather lets you down.
Evenings. In autumn and early December Gdańsk hosts recurring events, including the Jazz Jantar Festival at Klub Żak and the Gdańsk Piano Autumn. There are also candlelit piano concerts in the I Like Chopin series. Buy tickets in advance.
Note: guided tours of the Gdańsk Shipyard are usually available only from May to the end of September, so do not count on them in November.
Sopot and Gdynia off-season: walks, the cliff and the aquarium
Sopot and Gdynia in November are above all about the sea without the crowds. The beach in Sopot is often almost empty in the morning, and the walk from Sopot to the cliff in Orłowo takes a little over an hour.
Sopot
- The pier is the longest wooden pier in Europe. In previous seasons entry was charged from April to the end of September or the start of October, but rules can change, and the pier is sometimes closed during icing or storms. Check the city’s announcements before you travel.
- Cafés and restaurants around Monte Cassino Street and near the pier are good for warming up after a walk.
Gdynia
- Gdynia Aquarium at the end of the South Pier: about 250 species of animals and a chance to touch a live fish.
- The Emigration Museum in the former marine terminal (ul. Polska 1) and the Gdynia City Museum: good for a rainy day.
- The cliff and pier in Orłowo: a 180-metre wooden pier and a view over the Gulf of Gdańsk, and on a clear day even the Hel Peninsula.
- Kamienna Góra with its funicular, the Experyment Science Centre and the museum ships ORP Błyskawica and Dar Pomorza. Check the ships’ autumn opening hours before you go.
Between the cities the quickest option is the SKM commuter rail, which connects the stations in Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia.
St Andrew’s Eve (Andrzejki) 2026 in the Tricity: when and how to spend it
Andrzejki, the Polish St Andrew’s Eve, is celebrated on the night of 29–30 November, on the eve of St Andrew’s name day. In 2026, 29 November is a Sunday, so many parties are held the weekend before, 27–29 November. It is an evening of fortune-telling: the most popular customs are pouring wax through a key, reading cards, lining up shoes towards the door and peeling an apple. The first Polish literary mention of the custom dates from 1557.
How to spend Andrzejki by the sea:
- A party in a club, restaurant or hotel. In the Tricity, venues in Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia organise Andrzejki parties. Check current events and tickets in the calendar at trojmiasto.pl/imprezy (in Polish).
- Your own Andrzejki evening in an apartment. Wax, cards and apples are enough for a good time for 2–4 people, and after a full day of sightseeing you do not have to go anywhere.
- Andrzejki with the Christmas market. If you travel on 27–29 November, the market on Targ Węglowy has already been open for a week, so on Saturday you can try regional treats and spend the evening on fortune-telling.
A 3-day plan: weekend of 27–29 November 2026
- Friday: arrival and the Main Town. Check in, walk down Long Market and along the Motława, and have dinner with a view of the water.
- Saturday: museums and the Christmas market. In the morning the Museum of the Second World War or the European Solidarity Centre, in the afternoon the Amber Museum, in the evening the Christmas market on Targ Węglowy.
- Sunday: Sopot, Gdynia and Andrzejki. Take the SKM to Sopot for a beach walk, then Orłowo or the Gdynia Aquarium. In the evening, Andrzejki fortune-telling.
The Gdańsk Christmas Market 2026 runs from 20 November to 23 December. According to a Christmas-market calendar, the stalls are open Sunday to Thursday from 12 to 8 pm and on Fridays and Saturdays from 12 to 9 pm. Organisers have announced changes to locations this year, so check the layout on the market’s website. From Gdańsk Główny station it is a walk of a dozen or so minutes to Targ Węglowy, and there is no dedicated car park.
